Cincinnati Animal CARE says they have taken in 868 animals since Oct. 1.

To combat this “crisis” they will be offering “Name Your Price” adoption fees from Thursday, Nov. 4 through Sunday, Nov. 7.

“This is unlike anything we’ve seen,” says Cincinnati Animal CARE media and community relations manager Ray Anderson in a release. “Our facility was built in the 1960s with 100 dog kennels, we simply do not have the space to accommodate the sheer amount of animals coming in.”

The organization, the only “open-intake, no-kill animal shelter” in Hamilton County, took over Hamilton County animal welfare operations from the SPCA in August of 2020.

And, just because adoption fees are waived doesn’t mean the adoption process is eliminated. Cincinnati Animal CARE will still be screening all potential new pet parents and offering adoption counseling.

And for a special incentive, the shelter is allowing public walkthroughs of the kennels for the second time since CARE has been around.

“We typically don’t allow walkthroughs so the dogs can rest in their space, but it’s one of the most frequent requests we get, so if you’ve been waiting to take a look, now is the time,” Anderson says.

The shelter is open 1-6 p.m. daily and is located at 3949 Colerain Ave., Northside.
