Comedy: Bob Biggerstaff

Bob Biggerstaff knew he wanted to be a comedian but he didn’t know how to go about it. Then he got the notion to become a doorman at a comedy club in his hometown of Houston. There he met comics like Dave Attell, Tom Rhodes and the late Mitch Hedberg. He finally got up the nerve to take the stage but quickly found out there was a process involved. “The first time you go on stage your buddies are out there and they’re laughing,” he says, “but nobody else is and you think you’re killing. Then you go up the next time and your friends aren’t there and you’re like, ‘What happened? I was great last week!’ The more times you go on stage, you learn stuff.” Biggerstaff is now a headliner, bolstered by a few appearances on last summer’s Last Comic Standing. He mostly makes fun of himself and the world of sports. “I’m a goofy guy,” he says. “I don’t really know a lot about politics, so I stay away from that. ‘George Bush is stupid,’ yeah I know.” Biggerstaff performs Thursday-Sunday at Go Bananas. $8-$12.
