After some 20 years doing stand-up, JR Brow has amassed quite a collection of jokes, characters and songs. The mix has developed into a unique blend of comedy with a little music thrown in.
“It’s a potpourri,” he explains. “I guess it’s basically me telling long stories that have jokes inside of them about my family, about music and how it’s really just one giant chord.” The tunes usually come at the end of the set. “That’s sort of the icing on the cake,” he says.
The songs are unique in that they’re not particularly silly, nor are they parodies. For example, he’ll give the audience a sense of what it would be like if Cheech and Chong covered “Hotel California.” He also demonstrates how recognizable just the first two notes of “Sweet Home Alabama” are.
