Orson Welles is largely considered to be one of the best filmmakers ever. But what if he was so disappointed in all his work after Citizen Kane that he credited everything to Alan Smithee, the de facto made-up director of such shitty works as in-flight adaptations of Meet Joe Black and the pilot episode of MacGyver? English major humor! On Saturday Milk Money magazine will blow your mind with contemplations such as this during the release party for Volume Five: The Collected Works of Alan Smithee. And don’t worry, if you feel like it might be over your head — or you don’t know what the fuck Rosebud is — there’s plenty of solid material in the latest Milk Money to amuse those of us who went to public school, including a piece by CityBeat freelancer/noted alcohol taster Adam Sievering about a crazy redneck in an East-side suburb ramping bikes through the air with hilarious results. There will be live author readings, music by Joey Deady and The Cult Classics, Gold Shoes and Frontier Folk Nebraska and an after-party in the basement of The Comet. 8 p.m. Saturday in the old Feralmade space in Northside.
