Freaks, chic and some sweet beats — that’s what The Voodoo Carnival: A Mardi Gras Masquerade is in a nutshell. Held on Saturday at the Southgate House (24 E. Third St., Newport), the Carnival will be host to all kinds of devious events. The Queen City Cabaret will perform along with the Pickled Bros. Sideshow, Robin Marks Magic and belly dancing presented by Zahara’s Tangled Web. Local Voodoo Rockabilly rebels Switchblade Syndicate will be rounding out the night with an appropriately hedonistic performance. Prizes will be handed out to the best-dressed man and woman at the ball. Costumes are encouraged, but not necessary. Who knows, perhaps beads will be earned as the night progresses. A man can dream. Doors open at 8 p.m.
