Cincinnati was full of bummer and baffling news this week. It’s not quite a doggy pandemic, but all Hamilton County Shelter dogs are on full lockdown while the shelter deals with a harmful doggy virus. Also, Kidd Rock had a full-on meltdown about Bud Light’s recent partnership with trans TikTok star and University of Cincinnati grad, Dylan Mulvaney. It’s messy and cringey and you must watch this gas station of a man embarrass the hell out of himself.
Catch up on the week’s headlines below.
Hamilton County Animal Shelter Pauses Dog Adoptions, Intake Due to Contagious Virus The Hamilton County animal shelter, known as Cincinnati Animal Care (CAC), is pausing adoptions and intake for dogs at its Northside location to prevent the spread of a harmful virus. According to CAC officials, the shelter confirmed two cases of canine distemper virus (CDV) in stray dogs that recently arrived at CAC’s shelter in Northside. CDV is not transmissible from dogs to humans or dogs to cats, but is highly contagious for dogs, primarily impacting unvaccinated dogs and puppies. CAC’s current dog population will be quarantined until medically cleared, which CAC spokesperson Ray Anderson said will be difficult given the shelter’s strict one-dog-per-kennel policy and ongoing space issues. Read CityBeat‘s story to learn how you can help the shelter combat CDV in the community.
Bengals Running Back Joe Mixon Will Face Aggravated Menacing Charges After All Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon will face aggravated menacing charges, according to the Cincinnati Police Department. On April 19, Mixon will have to appear before a Hamilton County judge for charges related to a Jan. 21 incident in which Mixon allegedly pointed a gun at a woman and made threats. Police initially filed charges against Mixon for the alleged incident on Feb. 2, but a Hamilton County prosecutor announced Cincinnati Police would drop the charges the following day.
Since then, CPD has continued the investigation and announced on April 7 that charges were re-filed based on new evidence. Read CityBeat‘s story to find out what a possible sentence could look like for Mixon.
VIDEO: Kid Rock Guns Down Cases of Bud Light Over Company’s Partnership with Trans UC Alum Kid Rock had a little fit this week when he learned that Anheuser-Busch was standing by its recent partnership with trans activist and influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Bud Light recently enlisted Mulvaney, who attended University of Cincinnati, to help the brand connect with consumers (and sent her a can with her face on it to celebrate her first “365 Days of Girlhood”) and some snowflakes like Kid Rock are big mad about it.
Rock posted a video to his Instagram showing him wearing his own (dirty) merch and a MAGA hat and whining about Bud Light after shooting a few cases of the beer with an automatic rifle. Read CityBeat‘s story to see the cringey-yet-hilarious video for yourself.
Ohio Supreme Court Hears Case on Transgender Birth Certificates Justices on the Ohio Supreme Court heard the argument of a woman who was denied the ability to change her birth certificate to match her gender identity. Clark County resident Hailey Emmeline Adelaide applied for a change to the sex marker on her birth certificate in October of 2021, but the county’s probate court decided it “lacked authority” under Ohio law to issue the correction. In attempting to get the marker changed, Adelaide told the court she “had always identified as female – as long as she could remember” and that her gender identity “had not changed throughout her entire life,” according to court documents. Read CityBeat‘s story to hear what arguments were made by Adelaide’s attorneys.
Flying Pig Marathon Adds Handcycle and Para Division for Physically Disabled Athletes The Flying Pig Marathon made big strides this week in creating a more inclusive race for disabled athletes. Participants in this year’s race, which takes place May 5-7, can now sign up for a 10K handcycle division or a para athlete division. According to a press release from Flying Pig organizers, the 10K handcycle division will allow athletes to participate in the 10k with specially-designed bicycles powered by the user’s arms rather than their legs. The para athlete division will include a 5K, 10K, and full and half marathons. Read CityBeat‘s story to find out how you can sign up for the new race divisions.
