During an interview with ABC, Republican presidential candidate Jon Huntsman was asked about Michele Bachmann’s promise to return gas prices to under $2 a gallon if elected president, Huntsman said, “You know, I just — I just don’t know what — what world that comment would come from, you know? We live in the real world. It’s grounded in reality. And gas prices just aren’t going to rebound like that.”
He continued, “But just as we are in a static world, that is completely unrealistic. And, again, it’s talking about things that, you know, may pander to a particular group or sound good at the time, but it just simply is not founded in reality.”
Huntsman took no prisoners during the interview, slating Rick Perry’s skepticism about climate change. “The minute the Republican party becomes the anti-science party, we have a huge problem,” he said. “When we take a position that isn’t willing to embrace evolution, when we take a position that basically runs counter to what 98 out of 100 climate scientists from what the National Academy of Scientists said on what is causing climate change, and man’s contribution to it, I think we find ourselves on the wrong side of science and in a losing position.”
Former Bush Chief of Staff Karl Rove appeared on Fox News Sunday and made a point to lash out at former host Bill Baier while White House Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton played mediator roaster. When the GOP presidential field was asked if they would walk way from a deal with $10 in spending cuts for every $1 of tax revenue, Rove said, “With all due respect, that was a lousy question for a debate.” Burton interjected: “These guys are running for President of the United States, and they can’t talk to Bret Baier about what their vision is for how to deal with the economy?” Burton then gave Rove a talkin’ to about his role in the current economic conditions, saying, “I appreciate that you have an opinion on this, Karl, but as someone who was a leader in a White House that turned a record surplus into a deficit, that got us involved in a war we never should’ve been in, and turned the floor of the New York Stock Exchange into a casino, I don’t think the American people are quite ready to hear a lecture from you on good governance.”
