Professors from the University of Cincinnati will lead a forum about “U.S Military Detainees: Issues of Law, Ethics and Politics,” at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the TUC Theater at UC. Political science professor Howard Tolley will discuss what citizens need to know about prisoners in Iraq, Afghanistan and Guantanamo Bay. Law professor and former Marine Corps judge advocate Christo Lassiter will discuss his perspective of the ongoing debate around U.S. policies and history professor Elizabeth Frierson will discuss crime and punishment in the Middle East. Experience Community Learning Centers
Cincinnati Public Schools’ master plan will turn some schools from children’s educational facilities open eight hours a day into facilities that serve the entire community 16 hours a day. The Interfaith Alliance of Greater Cincinnati hosts a community forum to discuss the concept of community learning centers, how citizens can be involved and what these centers might mean for Cincinnati. John Gilligan of the Cincinnati Board of Education and others involved with community learning centers will be answer questions. The program starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Unitarian Church.

Gail Collins, editorial page editor of The New York Times, is the speaker for the second annual Harriet Beecher Stowe Lecture at the Mercantile Library.
