The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed a tornado touched down at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Wednesday night.
A cold front moving through Greater Cincinnati brought strong storms with it late Wednesday evening, prompting thunderstorm and tornado warnings in the area. The NWS has not released an EF Scale rating of the Boone County tornado at this time, but says video footage corroborates that it was a tornado.
Currently, a storm survey team is working to assess the path length and max intensity of the tornado. NWS says a rating will be released later Thursday.
CVG told local news outlets that debris came off a building under construction on the property. That building is aviation-related but not an airport building, according to a CVG spokesperson.
This is a breaking news story and will be updated as we learn more.
