Tennessee Williams received the 1948 Pulitzer Prize for drama for his play about the neurotic, vulnerable Southern belle Blanche DuBois, who falls on hard times and has to move into a seedy New Orleans apartment with her sister and her brutish husband. Marlon Brando originated the role of Stanley Kowalski onstage and in a 1951 film that won four Academy Awards. It’s an American classic, and it’s kicking off the 2014-2015 season at the Covedale Center, the West Side’s go-to spot for theatrical entertainment.
