Herman Melville’s classic 1851 novel about obsessive Captain Ahab and his pursuit of the Great White Whale that took his leg is one of the most enduring works of American literature. A stage adaptation by Julian Rad washes ashore at Know Theatre this week. The manic journey of the Pequod and its crew has been stripped to its essence and reimagined for Know’s intimate space, accompanied by the haunting music of sea shanties. Co-directed by new artistic director Andrew Hungerford and veteran avant-garde theater artist Michael Burnham, Moby Dick promises to be viscerally theatrical, breathing new life into a literary classic.

Through Nov. 8. $20. Know Theatre, 1120 Jackson St., Over-the-Rhine, knowtheatre.com.
