North American New Opera Workshop (NANOWorks) continues to challenge traditional ideas of opera as it kicks off its new season with the first two parts of Daniel Felsenfeld’s triptych, She, After. The performance’s Midwest premier, Alice In The Time Of The Jabberwock and Nora and the Great Outdoors depict Alice in Wonderland and Nora from A Doll’s House taking their lives beyond literary boundaries. The operas are in English, neither lasts more than 45 minutes and has no more than two singers. This is opera? You bet it is. Aik Khai Pung conducts and NANOWorks co-founder Kendall A directs.
