'Ricki and the Flash'

‘Ricki and the Flash’

Director Jonathan Demme seemed to have disappeared from the world of feature films after 2008’s Rachel Getting Married, devoting time to documentaries (Neil Young Journeys) and television (two episodes of The Killing). But he returns to big-screen narrative features with Ricki and the Flash, pairing him with hot screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno) and Meryl Streep, who commands attention as a rocker who refuses to grow up, but must finally address issues with the family she left behind. The movie offers Streep the opportunity to star opposite real-life daughter Mamie Gummer. (Opens wide Friday)  (PG-13) Not screened in time for review
