Greater Cincinnati — and Ohio, for that matter — will soon have its very first Wawa.
On Wednesday, Wawa announced it would officially open its first-ever Ohio Wawa location on the retailer’s 61st anniversary, April 16, also known as “Wawa Day” by associates and customers. The store will be located in Liberty Township at 7198 Cincinnati Dayton Road, with the company saying it expects to open eight to 10 Ohio locations in 2025 as part of its Midwest expansion.
Wawa is a chain of stores that offer fresh food, beverages, convenience, fuel and more. While the first modern Wawa store opened in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, in 1964, the company’s history dates back over 200 years.
“We are excited to fly into Ohio and bring our unique combination of fresh food and beverage, convenience and service to this state for the very first time. This historic milestone kicks off our ongoing growth and expansion in Ohio as we continue to build new stores and create new jobs,” Brian Schaller, president of Wawa, said in a press release. “We are also thrilled about extending our commitment to being a good neighbor with the announcement of several community partnerships made on opening day!”
Ahead of April 16, Wawa is people to share their favorite Wawa memories to highlight at the Grand Opening and on its social media channels for Wawa Day. You can sign up to share a story here.
The chain will also hold a special “Taste of Wawa” preview event the day the store opens. Register for the event here.
Wawa says it plans to open six to 10 stores a year over the next five to eight years in Ohio, with the goal of operating 60 locations in the state. The chain is investing $7.5 million to build each store, employing an average of 140 contractors and local partners. Once open, Wawa will employee around 35 associates per store, bringing 2,100 new, long-term jobs to Ohio.
