In 1966, John Kander and Fred Ebb’s musical was way ahead of its time. Although it’s nearly a half-century old, the show still feels like a piece of ultra-modern experimentation.
Set in a sleazy 1930s Berlin nightclub, Cabaret’s story is based on two novels from that era. The Cincinnati Playhouse has recruited Broadway veteran Marcia Milgrom Dodge to stage it, and she’s using a slew of New York stage veterans including Liz Pearce, a 2000 musical theater grad from University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music, who plays the tragic, devil-may-care singer Sally Bowles.
