A local restaurant that features authentic Argentine-style empanadas with globally inspired flavors is getting ready to open its second location — this time in East Price Hill.
The Empanada’s Box, whose flagship restaurant is in Covington on W. Pike Street, will hold its grand opening at its new location at 3117 Warsaw Ave. on Friday, Dec. 6, starting at 9 a.m. To celebrate, the restaurant will give away one free Buenos Aires empanada (featuring a flaky pastry exterior filled with seasoned ground beef and baked until crispy) to its first 50 guests, no purchase necessary.
On the menu, The Empanada’s Box features a variety of empanada flavors named after different parts of the world, like the popular Parma (ham, mozzarella, parmesan and oregano); the Kentucky (pork belly, bell peppers, onion and tabasco sauce), the vegan Jaipur (eggplant, green and red bell peppers, tofu and vegan cheddar cheese) and more. They also offer sweeter empanadas, like the Apple (green apple, brown sugar, cinnamon and raisins) and the Guava (guava paste and cream cheese).
The Empanada’s Box is owned by Diego, Fabiana, and Lucas Nunez, natives of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and graduates of Findlay Kitchen’s Findlay Launch program, a project that helps women, immigrant and minority-owned businesses launch and scale their food-based businesses. The family opened their first permanent location at 212 W. Pike St. in July 2022 and say they are excited to expand business to the West Side of Cincinnati.
“We are thrilled to announce the grand opening of our second location in the Cincinnati area. Covington warmly welcomed us into their community two years ago and we’re excited to bring our empanadas to East Price Hill. We can’t wait to share our unique, globally inspired flavors with Cincinnati’s West Side, and we look forward to becoming an integral part of the Price Hill community,” Lucas Nunez, The Empanada’s Box co-owner and director of sales and marketing, said in a press release.
The new location will be located in East Price Hill’s Warsaw Avenue Creative Campus, a $10-million mixed-use revitalization project by Price Hill Will, the community’s nonprofit development organization. The campus features eight buildings — a whole city block — bought and renovated by the nonprofit. Learn more here.
