Wooden Cask Brewery has quietly closed its Newport on the Levee location.
According to co-owner Karen Schiltz, who runs Wooden Cask with her husband Randy, the Levee location’s last day of service was Aug. 17.
“We left because our lease had expired and it didn’t make business sense to stay,” Schiltz said.
Wooden Cask opened at the Levee in 2020. Its flagship location, which opened in 2016 and is located nearby at 629 York Street, is still open and thriving; two years ago, Schiltz opened an event space on top of their remaining location.
“Nothing to be sorry about. We are happy with the decision. We can reallocate resources to our event space,” she said. “Business is great here.”
It’s the latest in a string of closures at Newport on the Levee, following the exits of Bon Mi Street, Native Clothing, Amador, The Brickery Cafe, 16 Lots Southern Outpost and the Bridgeview Food Hall.
Mi Cozumel recently opened its first Kentucky location in the former Amador space, and mini-golf spot PAR3 has been successful enough to expand its current location into what was once the Bridgeview Food Hall.
