Camp Washington’s art cafe SWELL is launching a new series to promote local artists.
Each month, SWELL will host a different working artist who will showcase their work in the cafe, as well as host programs and have featured food and drink menu items, as part of the new Featured Artist Boost (FAB) program. Displayed work will be available to purchase, and for each featured menu item sold, $1 will go directly to the artist of the month.
Opening receptions for each FAB artist will be held on the second Saturday of the month from 6-9 p.m. The first three artists of the year include:
January: Kelsey Lindner “SLiNK love”
Cincinnati-based artist SLiNK love received her MFA from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning and has taken part in many local, international and underground installations and activations. Installations will be located both inside the cafe, as well as on the exterior windows, and SLiNK love will host a community reading group on Wednesdays, Jan. 14 and 28, where participants are invited to bring a book to read and then take part in a casual discussion on what they’re reading. Featured menu items for the month include SLiNK love’s family vegan chili recipe and a bourbon hot toddy that comes with a free zine.
February: Pam Kravetz
Award-winning contemporary visual artist and educator Pam Kravetz creates art that is understandable, accessible, interactive and community-oriented and has been featured in more than 50 art exhibits and installations. In February, visitors can check out the Pamajama’s Practically Perfect Puckerupable Pickle Back Shot and Pam’s Oh So Very Yummy Grilled Provolone and Black Olive Sandwich on Rye on the menu. Kravetz will also guest bartend on select nights in February.
March: John Lanzador
Philippine-American educator and artist John Lanzador can carve, paint, draw and design, creating works that are community-focused, finding inspiration in everything from tattoo shops to botanical illustrations and even Mexican lottery bingo cards. He’s also collaborated with ArtWorks, BLDG and V&V and mentors youth through public art projects. Lanzador’s programming during March will include karaoke and open mic nights.
