May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

Throughout May, several organizations in the Greater Cincinnati area will be hosting events to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

“AAPI Heritage Month is a time for us to celebrate the culture and history of the Asian American and Pacific Islander community in Cincinnati,” Mei-Lin Williams, public relations coordinator of AAPI Heritage Month Cincinnati, said in a press release. “These events give us a chance to come together as a community to laugh, cry or learn something new.”

Events include networking, celebrating AAPI artists and workshops on business etiquette in Asia. Here’s some of what you’ll find on the calendar for the rest of May:

Dancing to the Blissful Poetry

This thematic show from Nishita is a celebration of 14-Century poetry and compositions that still hold cultural relevance and popularity today. The dances will be performed in the styles of Folk, Kuchipudi and Bharata Natyam, and each one tells stories of heritage while remaining inclusive of everyone. Free. Yellow Rose, presented by Woodward Cinema

Catch a screening of Yellow Rose, a film about a Filipino American teen growing up in Texas who wants to become a country music performer. The drama stars Eva Noblezada and Lea Salonga. Culture Awareness Workshop: The Warring States of the Middle Kingdom

Come to the Greater Cincinnati Chinese Chamber of Commerce to hear speakers well-versed in topics affecting AAPI individuals, such as diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as economic development and leadership. Voices & Visions: Expressions by Cincinnati Asian American Artists Opening Reception

This new exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Center celebrates the creativity and accomplishments of regional Asian American artists. Ten artists from six cultural heritages will be represented in the exhibit with their works, which include paintings, carvings, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture. Adopteen Lunch for Adoptees

If you identify as AAPI and are an adoptee, you’re invited to a special Korean lunch at HARU, courtesy of the Southern Ohio and Kentucky Adopteen Chapters. Lunch ranges in price from $10-$20. Saturday, May 27 from noon to 1 p.m. HARU, 628 Vine St., Downtown, theparkcommunity.org.
