Renaissance Covington, a nonprofit with the goal of revitalizing downtown Covington, has created a new event called Chalk Up the Cov. The goal is to spread joy and positivity through creativity and sidewalk art.

“At a time when stress is high and uncertainty looms for many, we want to help brighten up the community,” says Renaissance Covington’s Executive Director, Nick Wade, in a release. “RCOV is encouraging residents to get outside, spend time with your neighbors, at an appropriate social distance, and bring cheer to Covington neighborhoods. We are also looking for business owners and volunteers to chalk the entertainment areas of Covington, Roebling Point, Central Business District and MainStrasse.”

Chalk Up the Cov will take place at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 29. The hope is that the chalk art will encourage people to get out of their homes and, while maintaining social distancing and other COVID-19 safety protocols, explore the neighborhood — possibly supporting a downtown businesses while they’re out.

“We hope that people will get out and explore the chalk art in their neighborhoods and the commercial areas of Covington. You never know when someone might purchase a gift card or order online after walking past a small business,” Wade says.

Post a photo of your chalk art on social media using the hashtag #ChalkUpTheCov.
