If you’re looking to add a furry member to your family, now may be the time as Cincinnati Animal CARE (CAC) is looking to empty the shelter.

CAC is teaming up with the Bissell Pet Foundation to offer reduced adoption fees as part of the Empty the Shelter event from now until Wednesday, May 7. The shelter is one of over 380 shelters across 43 states hoping to to find homes for its pets.

“Every time we host Empty the Shelters, it affirms the importance of this lifesaving program,” Cathy Bissell, founder of the Bissell Pet Foundation, said in a press release. “During the event in May, tens of thousands of pets of all kinds, many who’ve waited far too long, will find the loving homes they deserve. Empty the Shelters has created real momentum around adoption, helping our nation’s overcrowded shelters save more lives. We are proud to keep expanding this life-changing effort and grateful to everyone who makes it possible by adopting or donating.”

This Empty the Shelter promotion, “$45 for 45,” aims to help larger dogs find their forever homes. CAC says foster family numbers tend to dip this time of year, and the on-site population of larger dogs is higher than average, so the team hopes to get as many of them into permanent homes as possible. Dogs ages 6 months and older and 45 pounds and over will be available for just $45, and cats over 6 months old will be $25.

“Our community has shown up for the cats and dogs in our care, and we can’t thank them enough,” shelter director Meaghan Colville said in a press release. “But we know there are still many animals waiting for loving homes, especially our larger dogs, that could really use this boost. Partnerships like Bissell’s Empty the Shelters are so vital, and working with the Bissell Pet Foundation gives us the opportunity to spotlight our incredible animals on a local level, backed by the support of a national organization.”

Both of CAC’s shelters will participate in the adoption event. Potential adopters can find dogs at the 3949 Colerain Ave. shelter and cats at the 4210 Dane Ave. shelter, both located in Northside. Both shelters’ hours are from 1-6 p.m.
