Cincinnati was named the No. 8 most affordable travel destination in the world by personal finance magazine Money. The ranking, released online on March 4, was based on Money’s annual Best in Travel guide which highlights 20 affordable destinations across the globe.
In order to rank the travel destinations, the study gathered information from over 43,000 data points, including average roundtrip flight prices, average hotel costs and local attractions, and evaluated the data from 750 international popular vacation locations.
The 20 highlighted destinations are broken up by average airfare, average hotel night and, for domestic cities, the cost of a three-day trip for two (international destinations considered the price for a full week). The “all-inclusive” trip estimation combines travel and stay costs as well as meals and activities.
Cincinnati came in at No. 8 with an average airfare of $270, average hotel cost of $177 and a three-day trip for two costing $1,575. The guide introduces the Queen City by saying “Ohio’s third-largest city is an attractive destination for foodies, adventurers, and craft-brew lovers — and it’s one of the most inexpensive cities on our list of U.S. destinations.” The listing highlights Over-the-Rhine’s Brewery District and Washington Park as well as the riverfront landscape and affordable dining options.
Los Angeles preceded Cincinnati at No. 7 while St. George, Utah followed behind at No. 9. Jekyll Island, Georgia snagged the No. 1 spot, with an average airfare of $300, average hotel stay of $242 and a $1,874 cost for a three-day trip for two, boasting miles of beaches and plenty of hiking and historic buildings.
