Cincinnati’s iconic John A. Roebling Suspension Bridge is closed to traffic for the foreseeable future due to sandstone fragments breaking off the east side of the north tower — “large enough to have killed someone,” according to Covington Mayor Joe Meyer. The closure is necessary to “ensure the safety of vehicles and pedestrians from the potential of additional falling debris,” says the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

But what may be an inconvenience to drivers has proven a unique opportunity for photographers and walkers, who now get free rein of the bridge. Here are a few shots local artists have captured while the bridge has been closed.
