“I’m so removed from it and I love it,” says Doug Stanhope, which sounds odd coming from one of the country’s most celebrated comedians.

However, there’s a good reason he’s not dialed in — he’s recording a special in June. “I have a whole list of other people’s specials I need to watch, but I don’t want to be influenced by any of them.”

The up-ramp also means a run of shows at Go Bananas this week, as opposed to his usual one-nighter.

In Paul Provenza’s book years ago, he predicted that someday we’d elect a celebrity as president because the country had become obsessed with reality TV shows. Someone recently reminded him of that via Twitter. “I was so prescient,” he says. Onstage, though, he talks about his life. “Every other comedian is political, but I don’t care.”

8 p.m. Thursday, April 25; 7:30 and 10 p.m. Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27. $30. Go Bananas, 8410 Market Place Lane, Montgomery, gobananascomedy.com.
