A new locally produced podcast featuring socially minded entrepreneurs, as well as the coaches and investors who support them, is launching this week.

From Flywheel Social Enterprise Hub, a startup accelerator and hub for social entrepreneurs, community organizations and corporations driving social change in their communities, the ON THE FLY! podcast will feature coaches who work with emerging nonprofits and businesses as they offer stories, advice, tips and ideas. It will launch with three episodes on June 26.

“Flywheel launched in 2011 to help social entrepreneurs grow and scale their businesses into enterprises that have both a financial return and positive social impact. Since then, we have mined hundreds of best practices in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors. We want to use today’s preferred channel of communication to share our story and the stories of the hundreds of founders and subject matter experts we have worked with. We’re excited to launch ON THE FLY! and introduce more people to the benefits of creating, sustaining and investing in social enterprises,” Donna Zaring, executive director of Flywheel, said in a press release.

The podcast is produced by Joey Scarillo and hosted by Joan Kaup, both certified Flywheel coaches, and the music is composed by Ben Hammer. So far, all episodes have been recorded at the University of Cincinnati’s 1819 Innovation Hub, compliments of UC.

Host Kaup has been a Flywheel coach for more than 10 years and has coached numerous emerging nonprofits and for-profit organizations. She earned an MBA in entrepreneurship from Xavier University and has worked in Greater Cincinnati for over 40 years. Flywheel says her depth of knowledge of both their organization and the entrepreneurial ecosystem makes her the clear choice to host ON THE FLY!

“I like hearing the passion in their voices as they talk about their origin stories and vision,” Kaup said about the podcast’s guests. “Their grit is apparent in conversations about overcoming obstacles. My reward is making meaningful connections between people or organizations where they can find common ground or the help they need to advance their goals. Through ON THE FLY!, I connect our listeners with the founders, coaches and subject matter experts who have valuable advice and experience to share. Some episodes will make you laugh out loud, but I hope each one leaves you with a nugget to think about.”

Producer Scarillo has produced and hosted two Webby Award-winning podcasts in the Best Creativity and Marketing Podcast category, Grey Matter: A Podcast About Ideas and #5Things: This Week in Social. Both shows also won Best Agency-Hosted Podcast by Adweek, while Grey Matter also won a People’s Voice Webby Award. Scarillo currently works as the associate director of project management for Grey Midwest, a role he also held with Grey New York.

“I have energetically embraced the Cincinnati community and am excited to mentor and consult professionals navigating their careers. ON THE FLY! combines my interests in podcasts and my commitment to Flywheel’s mission,” said Scarillo.

You can find ON THE FLY! wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts, including Apple and Spotify.

ON THE FLY! will launch the same day as Flywheel’s Demo Day, when five emerging social impact entrepreneurs — The Magical Adventures at Park Clinic, Prtty Pckup LLC, Cindependent Film Center, Early Affirmation and From Fatherless to Fearless — will pitch their business ideas to investors, clients, colleagues, coaches and friends. The event is from 4-6 p.m. in the auditorium at 1819 Innovation Hub and is open to the public, although attendees are asked to register here.
