Sankofa is back to transport you through time to the peak of Hip Hop.
This immersive art project uses performance, curation and cosplay to transform the People’s Liberty Globefront Gallery into a time-warp portal, hosted by grant recipient Jennie Wright.
The first part of the Sankofa installation took guests to The Cotton Club in Harlem in the 1920s. Now, the museum is traveling to the 1970s through the 1990s to revive elements of Hip Hop’s golden age — graffiti, poetry and freestyle Rap. For this night, things go East Coast vs. West Coast to capture one of the most important feuds in Hip Hop history.
Explore the roots of the rivalry and learn about the lyrical and physical battles that resulted. Remember to come dressed to impress with your best gear and maybe prepare some sick rhymes for the cypher. This is an experience like no other, to make you feel as if you freshly stepped into (and out of) a time machine.
7-10 p.m. Saturday. $15. 1805 Elm St., Over-the-Rhine, facebook.com/experiencesankofa.
