Prominent downtown sushi spot and cocktail bar Baru has closed.

The final night of service at Baru, which was located at 595 Race St. near Fountain Square, was Saturday, May 30.

“From the beginning, our goal was to open with energy and bring an elevated sushi culture to downtown Cincinnati, and we are proud to have done just that,” the restaurant wrote on social media Tuesday announcing the closure. “We are deeply grateful to all of the patrons who have supported us over the years.”

Baru opened in 2023 and was part of the portfolio of hospitality management company Further Concepts and Investors. The company is owned by Tyler Wogenstahl, who also operates the Voices of America Country Music Festival in West Chester.

The organization will now shift its focus to its other concept Vintage on Race, which is located a short walk away at 500 Race St.

“Vintage continues to be a beloved establishment and holds exciting potential for future growth,” the company wrote on social media. “3CDC has been an exceptional partner for both concepts, and we believe the Fountain District offers tremendous opportunity.”
