As the pandemic continues to surge throughout the country, small businesses have been forced to make difficult decisions in order to weather the storm.
Covington eatery Libby’s Southern Comfort announced on Nov. 29 that they are closing their doors until Kentucky’s restriction on indoor dining is lifted.
Gov. Andy Beshear implemented the new mandate on Nov. 20, which closed indoor spaces at restaurants and bars until 11:59 p.m. Dec. 13. Outdoor dining is still allowed.
Libby’s Southern Comfort owners the Wainscotts and Legges explained in a Facebook post that they are “tired, beat up & have to do what is best for the business.”
“Closing now ensures that we will be able to serve you for years to come when things get a little better.”
In the meantime, the eatery is raising funds for their employees, and to help cover their bills, by hosting a bourbon raffle.
The Libby’s Employee Fund raffle is offering the chance to buy two allocated bottles at retail price: Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve 15 Years and Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye 13 Year.
Each donation of $25 gets you an entry into the raffle. Donations are available through the @Libbys-SoutherComfort Venmo account — or you can message them via Facebook or email if you would prefer to pay a different way.
“Please comment ‘Employee relief fund’ when making entry. Send us a message with your phone number so we can contact you if your name is drawn on December 13th,” a Facebook post reads.
