You can take the bartender out of the bar, but you can’t stop Molly Wellmann from cocktail craftin’ and story tellin’, or however that saying goes…

Cincinnati bar owner and mixologist Molly Wellmann started a fun and educational daily video series on her Facebook page last week, dubbed 5 O’Clocktails, where she chooses a cocktail to create, tells a little about the history of it and then teaches you how to make it at home.

With the help of Wellmann’s video crew — her cats, Charlie the director, Jimmy the cameraman and Tuna the assistant — Wellmann’s first video featured a little-known (and very strong) cocktail called “The Suburban.” The cocktail was created to celebrate New York stock broker millionaire James R. Keene, who, according to Wellmann, was a passionate horse racer that was “known to have the greatest lot of race horses in the entire world, owned by one man.” Many of Keene’s horses participated in the Suburban Handicap races.

Other cocktails have ranged from the “Leave It To Me” to the “The Moral Suasion.”

While the videos are a fun way to connect with her group of loyal customers while her bar Japp’s is temporarily closed, it’s also a way to generate some funds for her workers and herself. Wellmann offers two different options to donate in order to support her business and hard-working staff — a Venmo link and a GoFundMe account

Wellmann also asks her viewers to please send videos of themselves making the cocktails at home.

Cheers!
