Two new concepts are moving into Newport on the Levee, including a local restaurant chain recently voted as one of the best Greater Cincinnati Mexican restaurants, as well as one of the best places for margaritas, by CityBeat readers.
Best known for its vast selection of margarita flavors (over 40) and quintessential Mexican dishes, Mi Cozumel will open its fifth location in the former Amador space along the Levee’s Riverwalk. The team will make cosmetic enhancements to the 5,770-square-foot space to bring in the brand’s colorful, vibrant aesthetic.
The Espinoza-Jaime family founded Mi Cozumel in 2018 as an homage to their Mexican roots after visiting all 32 Mexican states. Each state is represented in the restaurant’s menu, decor and hospitality, says the team. Diner-favorite menu items and experiences include the Margarita Tower, made-to-order guacamole, flaming fajitas and the tableside preparations.
“Proudly family owned and operated, we focus on creating an extensive, unique drink menu … and providing guests with an exotic experience — like traveling to the beautiful island of Cozumel without leaving the area,” Liliana Jaime, CEO of Mi Cozumel, said in a press release. “We wanted to extend our concept to Northern Kentucky and bring our vibrant energy to The Levee. Stay tuned for many surprises, including new menu items like unforgettable daiquiris for the little ones.”

The No. 1 cigar retailer in the United States will also be opening a spot at the Levee. Cigars International will open a state-of-the-art superstore in a 5,700-square-foot space next to Cold Stone Creamery this fall.
Since its founding in 1999, the Bethlehem, Pennsylvania-based cigar brand has become a leading name in the industry, offering a wide array of premium cigars, along with exclusive events, a renowned retail experience and knowledgeable staff. The Newport store will feature an expansive, climate-controlled humidor, elegant bar, comfortable lounge and spacious outdoor patio.
