Fruit LoOops (LP release), Seth Graham and Wasteland Jazz Ensemble at Northside Tavern Cincinnati art-punk band Fruit LoOops recently had a bit of bad luck, as reported by CityBeat, with a theft incident on their most recent tour, but this show may redeem some bad times with the band celebrating the release of their new record, You’re Somebody’s World. (There’s also a GoFundMe page created to offset the loss). If the record is anything like their last release, with its deconstructed electronic bursts and expressionist vocals held together by threads of rhythm and solid foundations of percussion, the band’s defiance should carry them right through to redemption with this release and occasion. The group will celebrate with longtime Cincinnati improvisational noise combo Wasteland Jazz Ensemble and Seth Graham of Dayton, who creates sonic collages of experimental electronic music with touches of classical stylings. All three acts stretch definitions of genre, structure and composition — a carnival of discord and dissonance. 8 p.m. Nov. 2. Northside Tavern, 4163 Hamilton Ave., Northside, northsidetav.com/events. Local noise-rock band Fruit LoOops released You’re Somebody’s World in early November. The 10-track album is exemplary of the band’s gritty noise, playful pacing, intense rhythm and experimental depth. A music video for the album’s sixth track, “Traffic,” premieres Dec. 7 exclusively with CityBeat and is available for streaming on YouTube.

“Traffic” is a chaotic tune that sonically frames lead singer Jackie Switzer’s impressive, undulating vocals. The song is arguably the climax of the record, preceded by the thumping, hypnotizing “Tenerife” and followed by “70,” with its deceivingly soothing intro that slams into descending thrashes and pounding disorder.

The music video for “Traffic” was created and shot by artist Abby Palen and edited by Fruit LoOops. The video is a  puppet show with intricate, silhouetted and hand-made (by Palen) designs that see the shadow puppet protagonist meet the “God of Traffic” in a “wild fucking ride.”
