In its 100-year history, the Ludlow Garage has been everything from an auto repair shop and parking garage to a shopping mall and pizzeria, but it’s most well known for its legacy as a music venue from 1969 to 1971. Current owners David and Claudia Taylor have revamped the venue and reclaimed its music history; it’s once again a concert hall welcoming local and national touring acts for intimate concerts.
The venue announced on May 16 that they’re growing. The space currently holds 300 patrons and, after renovations, they will be will be able to host over 500 guests. The venue will close for construction in early June and will reopen just in time for The Ludlow Garage’s 50th anniversary show on Sept. 19 with a performance by Dweezil Zappa.
In a press release, they outline their plans for the space. “Refurbishments will include knocking down and reconfiguring some walls to enlarge the venue’s listening space,” Brian Kitzmiller of Reveal Concepts explains. They will also switch out their fixed seating with removable seats in order to free up space for larger audiences.
They have a few other updates planned for the venue in addition to gaining some space. The venue is installing an ADA-compliant lift for visitors with limited mobility, updating the food menu and are adding an additional bar on the lower level.
