It’s officially summer and the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra is prepared to get its groove on. The KSO is bringing a summer series of free, family-friendly entertainment to Northern Kentucky.
The 29th Summer Series kicks off July 8 and 9 with a throwback theme that can’t be ignored. “Boogie Nights” is coming to Devou Park in Covington and Tower Park in Ft. Thomas on July 8 and 9, respectively.
“It’s ‘Ladies Night,’ so don your ‘70s ‘Le Freak’ outfit, grab your ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘Hustle’ over to the park to ‘Shake Your Groove Thing’ as the KSO pops opens ‘A Fifth of Beethoven’ and shares some ‘Jive Talkin,’” the KSO cleverly stated in a press release.
The KSO’s Boogie Band is a 21-piece studio orchestra headed by eight vocalists and arranged by KSO’s Terry LaBolt. Together, the group created 21 authentic iterations of hits from the ’70s. The disco tunes will include favorites from Donna Summer, ABBA, Kool & the Gang, The Bee Gees, The Village People, KC & the Sunshine Band and more, according to the release.
Attendees are encouraged to dance, sing along and dress accordingly, so break out the bell bottoms.
The KSO Boogie Band will be at the Devou Park Band Shell on July 8 at 7:30 p.m. and the Tower Park Amphitheatre on July 9 at 7:30 p.m. Dress rehearsals are also open to the public and free to enjoy on Saturdays at 10 a.m. at Devou Park. Concerts are free, but donations to the KSO are suggested.
Upcoming KSO Summer Series Events:
- August 5 & 6: “Too Hot To Handel” (Water fun, a sing-a-long & Royal Fireworks)
- September 2 & 3: “TV Guide” (Television themes & toons of the 1950s-90s)
