Danny Wimmer Presents has expanded its Louder Than Life music fest in Louisville to four days: Sept. 17-20. That’s one extra day added to the “biggest Rock festival in America.” And that extra day — Thursday, Sept. 17 — will feature Metallica as the headliner.
In a release, the production company said, “We are adding a Thursday to 2020 Louder Than Life and, are you ready . . . the newly added Thursday will be headlined by none other than Metallica. Yes, Metallica is back! We simply couldn’t accept that after all we’ve gone through together this year that there would be no Metallica performance East of the Mississippi. And Metallica agrees!”
In a Facebook post announcing its upcoming worldwide tour cancellations and rescheduled dates, Metallic said:
“We’re all putting safety first, self-isolating and socially distancing, but not forever!…For those of you in the States, you know that we have some festival dates planned in May and unfortunately the news is not quite as good. With heavy hearts, we’re here to let you know that Epicenter in Charlotte, Welcome To Rockville in Daytona, and Sonic Temple in Columbus have all been cancelled. There is one bright note; Louder Than Life in Louisville (September 17-20) has ADDED a date and we’re excited that we’ll once again be able to partake in the festivities as we’ll be hitting the stage on Thursday, September 17th to kick off what will be four days of live music and good vibes.”
The fest has not yet announced its additional headliners, but they say a full line-up is coming soon.
The fourth day has been tacked on to the Louder Than Life fest free of charge to current passholders. If you want a refund, however, that option is available until March 27. And if you want to buy a ticket, single day passes start at $99.50.
Like stated in the Metallic Facebook post, Danny Wimmer Presents has also had to cancel the Sonic Temple Art + Music Festival slated to take place May 15-17 in Columbus, Ohio, in addition to other a couple other fests.
“We are crushed to say that Epicenter, Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple are being canceled due to the governmental restrictions on mass gatherings. We respect these directives and recognize they are in the best interest of the greater good, as well as the health and safety of our fans, musicians, partners, and staff. Before accepting this fate, we worked really hard to try to reschedule the festivals,” says a release. “Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts, venue availabilities and a number of other factors out of our control made postponing impossible. Make no mistake, each of these festivals will return in May 2021 bigger and stronger than ever!”
