Exceptionally talented Greater Cincinnati based Country singer/songwriter Noah Smith has seemed ready to take his career up a big notch for a while now. On March 9, Smith takes another giant step in that direction with the release of his latest studio effort, Long Cut

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music grad (who scored a Cincinnati Entertainment Award in the Singer/Songwriter category last year and has been nominated in several other CEA categories) will host an early release party for hometown fans Saturday at Southgate House Revival (111 E. Sixth St., Newport, Ky., southgatehouse.com). Cincinnati Blues/Pop singer/songwriter Matt Waters opens the all-ages show at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance

Smith and his band have been working on the seven-song Long Cut over the past couple of years in between regular tour dates throughout the Midwest and South. Since he started, Smith — who cites influences as wide-ranging as Johnny Cash, Alan Jackson, Taking Back Sunday and Death Cab for Cutie — has spent a lot of time working on his writing and recording skills in Nashville, Tenn. But, as he recently explained during an appearance on the Lost on the River podcast from Herzog Music (listen here), Long Cut was crafted in Cincinnati.

“We did (the whole record) here in Cincinnati,” Smith said. “Went to Nashville… learned a lot, still learning a lot — still writing a ton down there. But me and my guitar player (John McGuire) both graduated from (CCM and are) audio engineers. He’s got a studio and I have a studio, so we just said, ‘Let’s do the thing.’ We were excited to make it happen here.”

Long Cut will be available on Spotify and iTunes, where you can pre-order the release now and receive an instant download of the title track. For further info — including details on pre-order bundles that include CDs, vinyl, shirts and more — visit noahsmithmusic.com.

Smith recently appeared on Local 12’s Good Morning Cincinnati (aka “Home of the World Famous ‘Wake Up and Makeup'”!) to play the title song from Long Cut. Watch it here.
