Kim Taylor in “The Hard Way” music video

Cincinnati singer/songwriter Kim Taylor began October by releasing “The Hard Way,” the sublime first single from her anticipated forthcoming album, Songs of Instruction. Earlier this week, Taylor brought the month to a close by releasing the fittingly mesmerizing and low-key cinematic music video for the track (which is available to listen to on most major streaming services). Songs of Instruction is scheduled to be released on Feb. 22.

The video for “The Hard Way” was shot in Los Angeles along Burbank Boulevard in September and directed by
German photographer and filmmaker Claudia Rorarius.

Taylor announced the release of Songs of Instruction in April, after launching a perks/funding campaign via PledgeMusic (read more here).

This summer, Taylor embarked on her first tour of China with a band that included singer/guitarist Brianna Kelly and other local musicians. Taylor has a large following in the country following the success there of her song “I Am You.” And just last week she returned from her second Chinese adventure.

In her most recent email newsletter, Taylor wrote about her experiences overseas:

Many of you who follow me on Instagram and Facebook know that I’ve toured in China twice now (late August and just last week!). My song “I Am You” became a hit there and has opened the door for me in quite miraculous ways. I’m still trying to process all of the experiences I’ve had over there so far: the people, food, sights, sounds, conversations, etc.

Local fans can catch Taylor a little closer to home in a couple of weeks. On Nov. 16, she is the featured artist at the Jake Speed-hosted Americana series Signs & Songs at the American Sign Museum in Camp Washington.

This post was updated to include information on Taylor’s most recent touring in China.
