Losing My Shirt

Kentucky-born, University of Cincinnati-educated artist Hollis Hammonds returns to her alma mater Thursday with an artist reception for Worthless Matter, an exhibition exploring consumerist culture.
A former adjunct instructor at several area art schools (including the Art Academy, Northern Kentucky University and DAAP), Hammonds moved to Austin, Texas in 2007 to work at St. Edward’s University, where she now is chair of the Department of Visual Studies. Post-apocalyptic in nature, Hammonds’ work ranges from large-scale wall drawings to video and sculptural installations that deal with issues of memory, material consumption and superficial loss.
Artist reception: 5-7 p.m. Thursday. On exhibit through April 6. Free. Dorothy W. & C. Lawson Reed, Jr. Gallery, DAAP Complex, Fifth Floor, West/Main Campus, University of Cincinnati, 5470 Aronoff Center, Clifton Heights, 513-556-2839, daap.uc.edu.
