Local author and educator Sharon Draper has accumulated numerous accolades over the years, a list far too long to fully document in this space, but here are a few: She has been honored as the National Teacher of the Year, is a YWCA Career Woman of Achievement and is a five-time winner of the Coretta Scott King Award. Draper’s latest book, Stella by Starlight, tells the story of a fifth-grade girl in the segregated South whose life is forever altered when she witnesses something she wasn’t supposed to see. Draper signs and discusses Stella by Starlight at Joseph-Beth Booksellers.
