Cincinnati officials broke ground Thursday on a $20 million renovation of the shuttered Lunken Airport Terminal.

The project will convert the 50,000-square-foot building into a hotel and restaurant, with completion expected by late 2027.

The city is contributing $2 million to the project, which is being developed by the Salyers Group, according to a city press release. The hotel will include 34 guest rooms, three patios and 4,200 square feet of event space. The restaurant will offer both upscale and casual dining, with a reflecting pool behind the building.

The terminal has been closed for years. The renovation is part of a broader city strategic plan for Lunken Airport.

“This terminal building has always connected Cincinnati to the rest of the world and to one another, but slowly it lost its luster and eventually closed entirely. Today, we start the transformation into its next phase – allowing it to once again welcome families and travelers through its doors,” said City Manager Sheryl Long.
