It seems very fitting that multi-instrumentalist Cale Parks is playing in Greater Cincinnati (The Southgate House in Newport, to be exact) Monday, just one day before his sophomore solo album, Sparklace, drops on Polyvinyl Records. Parks spent some of his formative years in Cincinnati; his family came here when he was 14 so his dad could study Jazz at CCM. Parks eventually moved on, to Bowling Green State University, where he met his future bandmates in Indie faves Aloha. Parks, the band’s drummer, could not be contained to one instrument, leading to his deep involvement in Aloha’s writing and recording process. Parks has been the drummer of choice for some of Indie Rock’s best; currently he’s playing with Domino recording artist White Williams (who also has Cincinnati roots). But Parks is now busy concentrating on his own project, touring extensively for the next few months with Ted Leo and Anathallo (who he’ll play with at The Southgate). Parks’ latest album is less ambient and obtuse, as he brings in a strong, slanted Pop sensibility, largely absent from his debut. Locals All the Day Holiday also play Monday’s 8 p.m., all-ages show. $10.
