Locally-based Blues/Rock singer/songwriter/guitarist Kelly Richey hosts a benefit for her non-profit Music 4 Change program tonight at The Redmoor in Mount Lookout. Richey — once described as “Stevie Ray Vaughan trapped in a woman’s body with Janis Joplin screaming to get out” — is joined by Diana Chittester and Amy McFarland with Trinity for the 8 p.m. concert.—-
Richey, a Lexington native, has become much than just a hard-touring Blues artist since relocating to Cincinnati well over a decade ago. A year ago, she decided to step back from the rigors of touring, inspired by her work with “life coaches.” Richey was inspired by her reawakening and has now become a life coach (or, more accurately, a “True Purpose Coach,” “Dream Coach” and “Health and Wellness Coach”). Read more about Richey’s journey to rediscover herself here.
Richey has also taught guitar for over 30 years, which fed into her formation of the new Music 4 Change music education program for kids in grades 3-12. Music 4 Change has three aspects — Blues History, Guitar Workshop and Urban Voices, in which “students participate in song deconstruction, writing exercises, spoken word and personal songwriting.”
