Singer/songwriter Jim Lauderdale is an Americana music favorite who has undoubtedly influenced many artists in his 35 years playing and writing Roots, Country and Bluegrass music. But for his most recent release, the double-album Soul Searching, Lauderdale decided to pay tribute to his own influences — namely vintage R&B, Soul, Blues and Rock & Roll. The first half of the album was recorded in Memphis at the famed Royal Studios (where some of Al Green’s most famous songs were tracked) and is steeped in a classic Soul vibe, with guitarist Luther Dickinson and drummer Cody Dickinson (of North Mississippi Allstars) plus various veteran session musicians pitching in. The second part of the collection was tracked in Lauderdale’s current headquarters (Nashville) and features more of a mix of Americana and early Rock & Roll. Lauderdale’s local tour stop will be a solo acoustic show, featuring songs from throughout the troubadour’s acclaimed career.
