The City of Newport has issued a curfew for Sunday, May 31.
The curfew is in effect from 9 p.m. tonight through 4 a.m.
According to the executive order:
The curfew applies to all persons with the following exceptions:
(i) public safety personnel;
(ii) persons working for federal, state or local government or law enforcement;
(iii) persons employed by a hospital, urgent care facility, medical clinic or laboratory; physician’s office or ambulance service and who are traveling to and from such facility or place of employment;
(iv) persons suffering from a health of emergency situation and traveling to a hospital, urgent care facility, medical clinic or physician’s office;
(v) persons going to and from work at a declared essential business; and,
(vi) persons traveling through the City on Interstate I-471 and who do not stop in the City.
The curfew is in effect until Newport issues another Executive Order saying it is no longer needed.
The order says, “The Newport Police Department is hereby empowered to enforce this Executive Order and any violators hereof shall be subject to arrest and penalty as provided for by KRS or appropriate City Ordinance.”
