The Northern Kentucky Health Department has issued a release confirming its first case of COVID-19.

A 66 year-old female and Kenton County resident has tested positive for the virus. She is in isolation at St. Elizabeth Hospital at Fort Thomas. The release did not specify if she had a history of travel.

“We have been planning for the possibility of cases here in Northern Kentucky,” said NKY Health’s District Director of Health Lynne Saddler. “All of us must do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by frequently washing our hands; avoiding touching our eyes, nose and mouth; avoiding close contact with ill people; covering coughs and sneezes properly; and staying home when we are sick.”

According to the release, “At this time, most people in our area will have little immediate risk of exposure to this virus, but it is likely that additional cases could be identified in the coming days and weeks.”

NKY Health also reminds the public to call your health care provider if you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 and are experiencing symptoms. Let the doctor’s office or ER know about your potential exposure before you visit, and about any recent travel or contact with someone who has COVID-19.

NKY Health will be hosting a press conference a 6:30 p.m. this evening (March 18).
