A potentially tasty food and film combo, On My Way from co-writer (with Jérôme Tonnerre) and director Emmanuelle Bercot features the ever-lovely Catherine Deneuve as Bettie, a woman on the verge of losing a relationship and her restaurant who embarks on a road trip with her grandson in order to recharge her senses and sensibilities. As one of those legendary female performers on the scene, Deneuve has been able to transition into her later years, finding sharply written complex roles that defy the odds and industry standards. The only fear with this film is that it will attract enough box office attention to coax Hollywood to greenlight a remake rather than inspire American audiences to simply step outside their comfort zones to appreciate this offering on its own. Opens March 28 at Mariemont Theatre. (NR) Not screened in time for review
