The Cincinnati Tenants Union organized a car protest at downtown’s City Hall on May 6, asking for city and state representatives to provide financial relief to members of the community who are having trouble paying their mortgage or rent due to coronavirus-related business closures and furloughs.
“Last month, a third of Americans did not pay their rent. We see this as an indication of the growing housing crisis due to massive unemployment. If we cant work, we cant pay rent!” a press release from the organizer Miranda Mason reads.
“City council has acknowledged our previous car protest and thanked us for our activism, but this does not mean we will ease on the pressure for government officials to take decisive action. We will continue to let our voices be heard until action is taken to keep people in their homes in the wake of the pandemic.”
