American Airlines is launching a new nonstop flight from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) to Cancun later this year, officials announced Wednesday.

This is the first international destination from CVG for American Airlines. Service is expected to start weekly from Dec. 9 to March 30, 2024. Passengers can begin buying tickets on Sunday, June 18.

“This coming winter we’re looking forward to adding more service to the destinations in Latin America and the Caribbean that our customers want to visit, including new nonstop service between Cincinnati and Cancun,” José A. Freig, vice president of operations and commercial for Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America, said in a press release. “We are proud to strengthen our lead as the largest U.S. airline in the region, with more flights and seats to more destinations than any other single carrier or partnership.”

Cancun will be American Airlines’ 13th destination served from CVG, which includes nonstop flights to Boston, New York City, Miami, Phoenix and more.

“Cancun is a strong addition to American’s growing network at CVG, serving leisure travelers,” Candace McGraw, chief executive officer at CVG, said in the release. “We are excited for another option for local travelers to get to sunny Cancun and pleased to see the continued expansion of the Oneworld Alliance with additional international service from CVG.”

The planned schedule will have one flight leaving for Cancun at 10:45 a.m. on Saturdays and arriving around 2 p.m. A flight leaving Cancun for CVG will leave at 3:05 p.m. on Saturdays and land around 6:25 p.m.

Earlier this month, CVG began offering direct flights to and from London’s Heathrow Airport with British Airways.
