Women Writing for (a) Change will release a new community anthology, “We Hold These Truths to Be Self-Evident,” with a public event on May 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Silverton Community Park, at the corner of Montgomery Road and Plainfield Road.

The free event will include live music, readings by contributing authors and light refreshments. No registration is required.

The anthology, supported in part by the Ohio Arts Council, drew nearly 500 submissions of fiction, poetry and memoir from writers across the country. The collection explores themes of identity, grief, resilience and connection.

“With a theme like ‘We Hold These Truths to Be Self-Evident’ prompted in our current times, we knew it was going to resonate with many people,” co-editor Michael Georgilis said. “These authors brought us celebrations to laud, and agonies to mourn; they lit fires and forged paths with their words.”

Donors to Women Writing for (a) Change will receive a copy of the anthology; proceeds support the organization’s classes and community programs.

Founded in Cincinnati more than 30 years ago, Women Writing for (a) Change is a nonprofit offering writing classes, workshops and community outreach for people of all genders. More information is available at womenwriting.org.
