Over two dozen fast-casual Southern-style chicken restaurants are coming to Cincinnati, Dayton and Columbus after the chain Slim Chickens inked a big deal with a current franchisee.
Slim Chickens, based in Fayetteville, Arkansas, signed a deal with restaurant operator Big Star Chicken to bring 25 of the eateries to Ohio. Big Star Chicken currently runs Slim Chickens stores in San Antonio and Austin, Texas.
“After researching Ohio markets for several years, we believe Slim Chickens will be a great fit,” Big Star Chicken president Dan McGrath said in a press release. “The brand has been a home run for us with its superior product quality, Southern hospitality, facilities and menu offerings. Slim Chickens is well positioned to compete with the best-in-class chicken brands in any market and I believe in the next five to 10 years, Slim Chickens will be one of the highest-grossing top franchise offerings for investors.”

Slim Chickens’ menu features classic chicken offerings, including tenders, wraps, sandwiches and chicken and waffles. The fast-casual eatery also offers Mac Bowls, salads and traditional Southern sides like coleslaw, potato salad and fries. For a sweet treat, guests can enjoy a variety of milkshakes and jarred desserts.
It’s not known at this time where the Slim Chickens will be located, or how many are opening in each city. Once open, the restaurants will be open for both dine-in and drive-thru service.

Greater Cincinnati was once home to a Slim Chickens restaurant in Symmes Township, but it closed in early 2022.
