The almost-100-year-old Hal Lasko, a retired typographer from American Greetings (where he worked as a lettering consultant for nearly 50 years), painted oil and watercolors throughout his professional career and up until the late ’90s, when his grandson gave him a computer. Diagnosed with wet macular degeneration, a disease that affects his sight, Lasko’s use of computing software, specifically Microsoft Paint, allows the artist to enlarge sections of his works and paint them pixel-by-pixel, developing his own contemporary pointillist style. His works range from abstract designs to landscapes and still lifes.
